High Surf Warning for January 17th - 18th ..


Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Portland OR 940 PM PST Wed Jan 16 2019 ...HIGH SURF WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THURSDAY TO 10 AM PST FRIDAY... * WAVES AND SURF...West-southwest swell combined with a south wind wave will produce waves near 25 feet along the central Oregon coastline. Breaker heights up to 30 feet are possible. * TIMING...Waves above 20 feet along the central Oregon coastline around 10am Thursday. Peak wave heights are expected to be late Thursday afternoon through the evening hours. This will create dangerous surf conditions Thursday morning through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...The surf zone will be very hazardous due to strong currents and breaking waves. Very large waves will run up much higher on the beaches than normal. These powerful waves can sweep people off jetties and other exposed rocks. They can also easily move large logs and other beach debris. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A High Surf Warning means that dangerously high surf will batter beaches in the warning area, producing deadly rip currents and minor beach erosion.
